Stay Active and Healthy This Christmas with These Quick Tips and Workouts

Christmas

The festive season is here, bringing plenty of joy, celebrations, and indulgence. While it’s a time to enjoy yourself, it’s also important to find a balance and keep your body moving. At CrossFit Structure, we’re all about helping you stay fit while having fun—yes, even during Christmas!

Here’s a quick guide with some festive workout ideas and practical tips to keep your energy up and your nutrition on point, so you can feel great throughout the holiday season.

Festive Workout Ideas: Keep Moving Anywhere

You don’t need hours at the gym to stay active this Christmas. Here are three quick, fun workouts you can do at home or on the go:

1. The “12 Days of Christmas” Workout
Just like the song, you’ll add one movement per round. Here’s an example:

  1. Burpee
  2. 20 Second Hollow Hold
  3. Sit-ups
  4. 40 Second Plank
  5. V-Ups
  6. Dumbbell Snatches (or any weighted object)
  7. Push-Ups
  8. Cossack Squats
  9. Pike Push-Ups
  10. Jumping Lunges
  11. Db Shoulder To Overhead
  12. Step-ups (use a sturdy chair or step)

Complete it just like the song: 1, then 2 + 1, then 3 + 2 + 1, and so on.

2. “Snowball Fight” Tabata

  • 20 seconds work, 10 seconds rest (repeat each exercise for 5 rounds, 2:30 min total each exercise):
    • Push-ups
    • Squats (Air Squats, Goblet, Barbell, Db, Etc..)
    • V-Ups

This workout is short, effective, and gets your heart rate up in no time. Perfect for when you’re short on time between festive gatherings.

3. Family-Friendly “Reindeer Relay”

  • Set up 4 stations with simple exercises (e.g., skipping, squats, jogging on the spot, or sit-ups).
  • Take turns doing each exercise for 1 minute.
  • Make it a fun family competition to get everyone involved.

5 Tips for Staying Healthy During the Festive Season

Christmas is a time to celebrate and enjoy yourself, but it doesn’t mean you have to ditch your healthy habits completely. Here are five easy tips to balance the indulgence with staying on track:

1. Prioritize Protein
Protein is your best friend for staying full and keeping energy levels stable. Try to include a source of protein with each meal, even at Christmas dinner. Any kind of whole food will be a better option but here are some foods you can give a go:

  • Add turkey, salmon, or lentil dishes to your plate.
  • Snack on Greek yogurt, almonds/cashews, boiled eggs, or protein bars instead of just sweets.
  • If you’re on the go, a quick protein shake can be a lifesaver!

2. Stay Hydrated
With all the mulled wine and festive drinks, it’s easy to forget water. Aim to drink a glass of water with every meal to stay hydrated and support digestion.

3. Eat Mindfully
Take time to enjoy your food. Chewing slowly and savoring each bite can help you avoid overeating and appreciate the festive flavors.

4. Keep a Routine
Even if you can’t stick to your usual workout schedule, try to get some movement in every day. A 10 minute walk after your meal, a 10-minute workout, or a quick stretch session can make a big difference.

5. Enjoy the Treats—Without the Guilt
Christmas only comes once a year, so allow yourself to enjoy the treats you love. Balance them out with nutritious meals and remember: it’s what you do most of the time that counts, not the occasional indulgence.
