It’s a question we get all the time—especially from people just starting out: “How quickly will I see results?”
And for those who’ve taken a break or are heading off on holiday, there’s another question that usually follows: “How fast will I lose it if I stop?”
Let’s break it down.
The Good News: You Can Gain Fitness Fast (At First!)
If you’re new to training—or coming back after some time off—your body will adapt surprisingly quickly. It’s not unusual to see and feel a difference within the first few weeks of consistent effort.
In fact, many people start noticing changes within 4–6 weeks. That could mean more energy, improved mood, better sleep, or even hitting some small strength or cardio milestones. At CrossFit Structure, we also track body composition using InBody scans, and we often see muscle gain and fat loss in that same early window.
Why so fast? When you’re newer to training, your body has more room to adapt. It’s like starting from scratch—you’ll make bigger leaps early on. More experienced athletes still make progress, of course—it just takes a bit more work and time.
Things like workout intensity, frequency, recovery, nutrition, and sleep all play a role. And working with a coach means you’ll have a plan that actually fits you, rather than guessing your way through random workouts.
Going on Holiday? Here’s How to Stay on Track
We know holidays are meant to be a break—but that doesn’t mean your progress has to go completely out the window. In fact, a little movement while you’re away can help you come back feeling refreshed and on track.
At CrossFit Structure, we offer custom holiday programming for any member heading off on a trip. Whether you’ve got access to a full hotel gym, a couple of dumbbells, or just a patch of floor in your villa—we’ll tailor workouts to fit your setup.
All we need to know is what equipment (if any) is available, and we’ll create simple, effective workouts you can do in 20–30 minutes. It’s a great way to keep your momentum going without sacrificing all your chill time.
Just drop us a message before you go, and we’ll sort you out.

But What Happens If You Stop Training?
Here’s the reality: if you stop training, you will lose fitness. But don’t panic—it doesn’t happen overnight.
If you miss a couple of sessions or even a week while on holiday, your body won’t forget everything. But after about 2–4 weeks of no training, most people will start to feel a drop-off—especially in cardio endurance. Strength tends to hang around a little longer, but it’ll still start to slip without regular use.
How quickly that decline happens depends on how long you’ve been training and how active you are outside the gym. Someone who’s been training consistently for years will usually hold onto fitness longer than someone who’s only just started. And staying generally active (like walking, playing, moving your body) can help slow the decline even when you’re not doing structured workouts.
Bottom line? You don’t need to stress about missing a few sessions. But if you want to keep your results, you’ve got to stay consistent—even if that means just showing up a couple of times a week or moving your body while you’re away.
