Farewell but Never Goodbye – Celebrating Laura & Matthew

farewell

At CrossFit Structure, one of the most special parts of our community is the people who make it what it is. Being located in Newmarket, we’re lucky to welcome many military personnel into our gym family—but it also means we sometimes have to say goodbye when they are posted to new locations.

This month, we are celebrating two amazing members who are soon to move on: Laura and Matthew. Both have been an incredible part of our community, and we couldn’t be prouder of their journeys.

Laura’s Journey

Laura joined us 9 months ago and quickly showed what can happen when you commit yourself fully—not just to training but also to nutrition, mindset, and community. She dedicated herself to improving her technique, invested in our nutrition program, and showed up consistently to put in the work.

Here’s what Laura had to say about her experience with us:

“I have started to work out in gyms back in Germany, and continued in Italy and here in the UK since 2010. I had no plan, no fitness coach, and learned by watching youtube videos and doing. During Covid and the lockdown, I switched over to home workouts, a mix between strength and barre, without a plan. I thought I knew it and am fit until I joined your gym.

The four onboarding sessions opened my eyes and I learned so much; especially what I have done wrong. The first weeks were tough and I realized quickly that three times a week and one PT per month won’t bring me where I want to be- fit and strong. Three months in I switched over to unlimited and started to come six times a week (if possible) and I see the development in my body, and technique. I am getting pushed as I need to get pushed, and also started to involve my son. I was sure I would enjoy CrossFit, now I realize I love it (sure I sometimes question my life choice at 6am haha, just kidding).

I found the class/ group that pushes me and where I feel most comfortable, which makes waking up early and working out more a joy than a task. Joining your gym has impacted my physical and emotional health, as well as my mental health as I am starting my day great.

My plans going forward is to join a CrossFit gym at our new location; I already found two and am going to try them out. Additionally whenever I stop by to visit, I will definitely stop by for a workout. Maybe I can then pull off some pull ups :D.”

Laura, your drive and determination have been inspiring. We’ll miss you in the early morning crew, but we know you’ll continue to thrive wherever you go.

Matthew’s Journey

Matthew joined us just over a year ago and has been a true example of positivity and resilience. Despite the challenges of being separated from his family, he always brought energy, encouragement, and laughter to the gym. His story shows just how powerful fitness and community can be in difficult times.

Here’s what Matthew shared about his time with us:

“When I started my journey in August 2024 into Crossfit Structure, I did it because I needed to make myself better. I was overweight, sad and was not living up to my potential. I felt hopeless and lost because my family was stuck in another country and I was unable to help. Luckily, I met Aaron and Charlotte at the right time. Since joining, I have become healthier, faster and mentally & physically stronger. This is my first Crossfit experience and they have set the bar very high. I am only leaving because I can get my family back, other than that I wish I could stay. I want to personally thank Charlotte and Aaron for all the great times and the guidance in such a difficult part of my life. This place is more than just the gym.”

Matthew, your positivity has lifted up so many people around you. We’re so glad we could be part of your journey, and we can’t wait to see the amazing things you do next.

A Last Word

Laura and Matthew remind us why CrossFit Structure is so special—it’s not just about workouts, but about community, growth, and support through all stages of life. Both walked in with no previous CrossFit experience, but with commitment, consistency, and the right guidance, they’ve completely transformed their fitness and mindset.

While we’re sad to see them go, we’re grateful for the time they spent with us and proud to know they’ll carry a piece of Structure with them wherever they go.

From everyone at CrossFit Structure, thank you both for being such a big part of our family. You’ll always have a home here whenever you come back.
